Make Your Plan to Vote

Primary is Tuesday, August 11 — and voting is already underway.

Every vote matters in this primary. Whether you vote from your kitchen table, at an early voting location, or at your polling place on Election Day, here's everything you need to cast your ballot for Ron Latz.

Key Dates

  • June 26 — Absentee/early voting began

  • July 24 – August 10 — Direct early voting (put your ballot right into the tabulator, just like Election Day)

  • July 28 — Recommended deadline to request a mail ballot (so it has time to reach you and get back)

  • August 11 — Primary Election Day. Polls open until 8:00 p.m.

Check Your Registration (or Register)

Not sure if you're registered at your current address? It takes 30 seconds to check — and if you need to register or update your registration, you can do it online.

👉 Register or check your registration: mnvotes.gov/register

Minnesota also offers same-day registration — you can register at your polling place or early voting location when you go to vote. Just bring an accepted proof of residence (like a Minnesota driver's license with your current address, or a photo ID plus a current utility bill).

Vote by Mail

Any Minnesota voter can vote by mail — no excuse needed.

  1. Request your ballot online: mnvotes.gov/absentee

  2. Fill it out at home following the instructions (you'll need a witness — any adult U.S. citizen or a notary).

  3. Return it by mail, or drop it off in person at your local election office.

Important: Mailed ballots must be received by 8:00 p.m. on August 11 — a postmark isn't enough. If it's getting close to Election Day, drop your ballot off in person instead of mailing it.

Vote Early in Person

Skip the Election Day lines and vote on your schedule.

  • Now through August 10: Vote absentee in person at your county or city election office during business hours.

  • July 24 – August 10: Minnesota's new direct early voting is available — you'll check in, get your ballot, and feed it straight into a tabulator, exactly like on Election Day.

Good to Know

  • Minnesota has an open primary — you don't need to be a registered party member to vote, and you don't declare a party. You'll simply vote in one party's column on your ballot.

  • You can only vote in one party's primary. To vote for Ron Latz, mark your choices in the DFL column only.

  • Requested a mail ballot but want to vote in person? You can — as long as you haven't returned your absentee ballot, just tell the election judges when you check in.
